Since 2008, wholesale electric costs have been on the rise. The rising cost of energy became apparent as the 2008 Power Cost Adjustment (PCA) increased an average of 10-15% from previous months in 2007.
Recently, the City was able to purchase wholesale electric power at a lower rate. The lower rate is reflected in a reduced Power Cost Adjustment. Between July 2009 and July 2010, the PCA decreased approximately 15%. For example, a residential customer who used 775 kilowatt hours of electricity in July 2010 will save $13.35 compared to the same usage in July 2009.
The decreased PCA is applicable to all classes of RMU electrical customers. The PCA reflects only the decrease in wholesale power costs. Rochelle Municipal Utilities retail rates have and will remain competitive with both investor owned utilities in Illinois and other Municipal Electric Utilities.
