HIGH HEAT ALERT ISSUED FOR TODAY

A high heat alert has been issued for this afternoon.  This is an alert for our electrical region that we may have a higher than normal demand for electrical energy.

Although it is currently raining in Rochelle, there are hotter cities in the region that will place additional demands on the electrical grid.  This can drive up prices overall for the peak demand as shared in earlier RMU communications with the community.

To save energy and money, turn up the air conditioning a few degrees and instead of turning on the stove and/or oven, enjoy dinner out at one of the local establishments.

If you have any questions, please contact RMU Customer Service at 815-562-4155.

Rochelle - North Flushed June 3B

Background

The approved 2013 May 1st electric rate schedules have been created and represent an overall rate increase of approximately 2%.

A typical residential customer with an average electric bill of $79.40 will see an increase of $5.04 in the four summer months and a reduction by $3.09 per month in the eight non-summer months if the resident makes no changes to energy use.

The energy cost per energy unit has been decreased and the base cost has been increased.  This gives the user more control over energy costs and the potential to lower their overall energy expenses by using energy efficient appliances and investments.

Seasonal Rates

Summer peaks have been increasing over the past couple of years.  This is due to increased use of air conditioning, appliances and multiple electronics in the home.  The summer energy peaks drive the overall costs of energy.  With seasonal rates the cost of energy will provide a better base for the economic use of energy.

What You Can Do To Save On Your Energy Costs

RMU has introduced additional energy saving incentives to support residential customers in cost savings especially during the summer months.  RMU strongly encourages customers to schedule an air conditioning tune-up to ensure it's functioning properly.  Adequate attic insulation and the use of ceiling fans are two great ways to drive down energy costs during the summer.  The RMU Energy Saving incentives are available now at www.rmu.net.  If you have any questions or need additional information, call the RMU Customer Service Office at 815-562-4155.

Don't Flush Trouble

Friday, 1 March 2013

Rochelle, IL - When it comes to disposal......drains, toilets and trash cans are not all the same.  Disposing of trash items down drains and toilets can lead to sewer overflows and back-ups that can cause harm to human health.  Just because the package says "flushable" doesn't mean it's true.  These products are clogging our sewer lines and damaging pumps and other equipment.

Rochelle Municipal Utilities is taking proactive measures to maintain and improve our utility infrastructure.  Our sewer system is designed to dispose of very specific items.  Using your toilet for disposal of many modern products will often result in blockages.  The drains in your home that connect to the sewer main are only big enough to carry water, toilet paper and human waste - often no wider than 4 inches.

Avoid drain pain, don't flush these items...........

  • Disposable diapers, nursing pads and baby wipes
  • Facial tissues and Kleenex
  • Paper towels and napkins
  • Dental floss, hair or condoms
  • Sanitary pads and tampons
  • Grease, fats and oils

We appreciate your cooperation.  We at RMU strive to provide quality customer service in all areas of our operation.  If you have questions or concerns, please call the RMU Customer Service office at 815-562-4155.

Remember, if it isn't from your body or toilet paper, put it in the trash!
