Water Meter Exchange

Rochelle, IL - As our water meters age over time they must be replaced every ten to twelve years.  Rochelle Municipal Utilities is taking proactive measures to maintain and improve our utility infrastructure, and the meters are now being replaced with more reliable meters.  If your water meter needs to be replaced, you will receive a written notice from RMU to schedule an appointment.  The homeowner must be present to allow Operators access to exchange your water meter.  An added benefit of the new meters is improved reading efficiency.

RMU endorses water conservation and we offer thise useful tips.

  • Turn faucet off when brushing teeth or shaving
  • Run your clothes and dishwasher only when they are full
  • Shorten your shower by two or three minutes
  • Check for leaks in toilets, water faucets and water heaters

On Friday, January 4th, RMU Water Operators will repair a water main break in the area of 1202 Crest Lane.  The repair work will begin at approximately 9:00 a.m.  RMU does not anticipate any water service interruptions, but customers in the area may experience low water pressure and discolored water while the operators make the repair.  If you have any questions, please call the RMU Customer Service office at 815-562-4155. 

On Thursday, January 3rd, RMU Water Operators will repair a water main break in the area of 1103 Garfield Drive.  The work will begin at approximately 9:00 a.m.  RMU does not expect any water service interruptions, but customers in the area may experience low water pressure and discolored water while the Operators make the repair.  If you have any questions, please call the RMU Customer Service at 815-562-4155.

Wednesday, December 19th, the RMU Water Division will be repairing a water main break at the intersection of South Main and Veteran's Parkway.  We do not anticipate any service interruptions, but customers in the area may experience low water pressure and discolored water when the operators are making the repair.  South Main Street may be closed to vehicular traffic while the work is being done.  If you have any questions, please contact the RMU Customer Service office at 815-562-4155.

On Wednesday, November 21, 2012, RMU Water Operators will repair a water main break at the intersection of Lakeview and South Ninth Street.  As a result of the work, water service will be interrupted for twelve customers located at the 800 and 900 blocks of Lakeview Drive.

A precautionary boil order will be issued.  Customers must boil all water used for drinking and washing dishes.  The boil order is expected to be lifted on Friday, November 23, 2012.  Customers will be notified once the boil order is lifted.

If you need to bring an item to RMU for recycling, please remember the bridge on Treatment Plant Road has been removed.  Take Route 251 South to Lakview Drive and turn right at Casey's, go west one block and after your cross the bridge turn left onto South 9th Street.  South 9th Street will take you into the Treatment Plant.  Follow the road to the "Office" building.  Electornic devices may be delivered to the RMU Water Department Lab located at 888 Treatment Plant road between the hours of 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. 

Rochelle Net Network Outage

Due to required electrical work within the Rochelle Technology building we must shut down all RMU, City of Rochelle and Rochelle.Net servers and network systems starting at 11:00 PM Wednesday October 17 . We expect all services to be returned to normal operation before midnight Thursday morning.
Note that all RMU,City of Rochelle and Rochelle.net IT systems will be unavailable during this outage, including but not limited to:
- All Internet Access
- Rochelle.net email
- VPN services
- Cisco phone services
- All file servers and network storage access 

On Wednesday, September 26th, the 300 block of Lincoln Highway will be closed.  RMU Water Operators will replace a water service in the area. 

On Thursday, September 20, 2012, RMU Water Operators will repair a water main break at Lincoln Highway and Fourth Avenue.  As a result of the work, water service will be interrupted and a Precautionary Boil Order may be issued.

Weather permitting; water service will be interrupted from approximately 8:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 20th.  RMU customers in the 300 block of Lincoln Highway will be affected.  Vehicular traffic may be limited in the area during the repairs.

You will be notifed if a precautionary boil order is issued and as a reminder, customers should boil all water used for drinking and cooking for a minimum of five minutes.  Customers will be notified once the boil order is lifted.

Tuesday, July 24, 2012 at 3:40 a.m. a semi truck hit and broke two RMU power poles in the 100 block of Avenue H.  RMU electric crews will replace the two broken poles later today.  If you have any questions, please contact the RMU Customer Service office at 815-562-4155.

Early Tuesday, July 24, 2012 high winds were the cause of power outages in the Rochelle, Hillcrest and Creston area.  At 5:15 a.m. Feeder #32 closed due to tree branches falling on the power lines on Linda Avenue in Hillcrest.  The outage affected 476 customers and lasted about 35 minutes.  Power was restored in Hillcrest around 6:50 a.m. 

At 5:22 a.m. a large tree branch fell on the power lines on Ritchie Road which closed Feeder #61 affecting the power in the rural area to 474 customers on Steward and Ritchie roads and the businesses in the area that include Bay Valley Foods, Nippon and Clark Steel.  The power was restored to these customers at 6:25 a.m.

On Thursday, July 19th, RMU Water Operators will repair a water main break in the 200 block of Second Avenue.  We do not anticipate any service interruptions, however customers in the area may experience low water pressure and discolored water during the repairs.  If you have any questions, please contact the RMU Customer Service office at 815-562-4155. 

On Wednesday, July 18th, RMU Water Operators will repair a leaking valve at Garfield Drive and South 12th Street.  As a result of the work, water service will be interrupted and a Precautionary Boil Order will be issued.

Weather permitting; the water service will be interrupted from approximately 9:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 18th.  RMU customers in the 400 and 500 blocks of South 12th Street, the 900, 1000, and 1100 blocks of Avenue E and Garfield Drive as well as the 400 block of South 9th Street and the residence at 1227 Lakeview Drive will be affected.

You will be notified when the precautionary boil order is issued and as reminder customers should boil all water used for drinking and cooking for a minimum of five minutes.

Customers will be notifed once the boil order is lifted.  If you have questions or concerns, please contact RMU at 815-562-4155.

ALERT

RMU is warning customers about a possible telephone scam.  The phone calls appear to be a part of a scam designed to obtain personal information and/or money from customers.  These calls are NOT authorized by RMU.

In the reported instances, the caller claims to be a utility employee asking for payment to avoid disconnect.  

RMU is urging customers not to respond to these fake calls.  Customers who have received such calls can report them to the Attorney General Office of Consumer Fraud Hotline at 1-800-386-5438 or the RMU Customer Service office at 815-562-4155.

RMU wants to warn customers to be aware of these calls and suggests the following tips if such a call is received:

  • Never reveal your credit card and/or bank information to anyone unless you are certain the contact is legitimate.  Know who you are dealing with.
  • If the caller insists you complete a transaction, hang up immediately.
  • RMU representatives do not conduct business in this manner.

Wednesday, June 27th, RMU Water Operators will continue flushing the hydrants on Sprigdale and Brookside Drive and proceed to the east on Highway 38 and the Petro area.

Tuesday, June 26th RMU Water Operators will continue flushing the hydrants on School Avenue, Drake and Linder Lane moving to the South across Route 38 towards the Meadowbrook sub-division which includes Sunnymeade, Springdale, Crest Lane and Brookside Drive.

Customers are reminded to open cold-water faucets for several minutes until the water becomes clear to insure all of the discoloration has been removed.  If you have any questions, please contact the RMU Customer Service office at 815-562-4155.

Monday, June 25th flushing will begin in the 1,000 block of North Third Street moving east on 7th Avenue to Kelley Drive and Carlisle.  They will also continue flushing on North Second Street, Meadow Lane and Turkington Terrace.

Friday, June 22nd, RMU Water Operators finished flusing the hydrants in the downtown area between Second Avenue and Highway 38 on Lincoln Highway, Fourth, Sixth and Main Streets.

Thursday, June 21st, the hydrant flushing will be finished in the high school area.  Flushing will then begin west of 7th Street, starting on 2nd Ave and heading north.

Wednesday, June 20th, the hydrant flushing will continue in Squires Landing then move to 20th Street and the Askvig subdivision.

Tuesday, June 19th the hydrant flushing will continue in the North Ridge area including Carrie Avenue West of 14th Street, and Pickwick through Clifton Terrace.  Operators will also flush the Askvig sub-division.

Monday, RMU Water Operators will continue flushing on Highway 251 North from Carrie Avenue proceeding towards the Askvig addition as well as Flagg Road and 20th Street into Squires Landing.

Friday, June 15th RMU Water Operators will begin flushing in the Tilton Park area and proceed towards 11th Street, Woolf Court and Westview Drive.  Once those area's have been completed they intend to move towards Highway 251 North of Jones Road and the Askvig sub-division.

Customers are reminded to open cold-water faucets for several minutes until the water becomes clear to insure all of the discoloration has been removed.

Thursday, June 14th, RMU Water Operators have completed flushing the hydratns on 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, 12, 14th, and 15th streets between Lincoln Avenue and Jones Road.  They also completed flushing on Highland, Scott and Joanne Avenue.

Wednesday, June 13th RMU Water Operators will flush the water hydrants on 7th and 9th streets.  The flushing begins at Lincoln Avenue proceeding north towards Jones Road and 10th Avenue.  Customers are reminded to open cold water faucets for several minutes until the water becomes clear to insure all of the discoloration has been removed.  If you have any questions, please contact the RMU Customer Service office at 815-562-4155.

North 8th Street between Lincoln Avenue and 10th Avenue was flushed on Tuesday, June 12th.

Tuesday, June 12, 2012 RMU Water Operators will continue flushing the hydrants in the Lakeview sub-division, Jack Dame Road area and Center Point on Route 38 West.  Once that area is completed the Operators will proceed North on Seventh and Eigth Streets moving to the West.

Monday, June 11th Water Operators were able to resume the hydrant flushing.  The area South of First Avenue and East of Route 251 have been completed.

Tuesday, June 5th,  THERE WILL BE NO HYDRANT FLUSHING TODAY.

Monday, June 4th, Water Operators completed the souther industrial area as well as Southview and Lida Lake.

Friday, June 1, 2012 RMU Water Operators will continue the hydrant flushing project on the south side of town; specifically in the area of Intermodal Drive and the Cleveland sub-division.

Thursday, May 31st hydrant flushing will continue....in the Southview sub-division including Lake Lida Lane and Willis Avenue continuing in the south industrial area.  The water operators could reach as far as South 7th Street and the Cleveland addition.

Wednesday, May 30, 2012, one RMU Water Operator will begin flushing the hydrants on Caron Road at Timber Lane and proceed south on Steward Road.  The second RMU Water Operator will begin flushing the hydrants on Caron Road at Wiscold Drive and proceed to the west.

RMU Annual Hydrant Flushing

On Wednesday, May 30, 2012, Rochelle Municipal Utilities will begin their annual hydrant-flushing project.  The fire hydrants are opened and allowed to run in an effort to circulate water in the underground water mains.  It will take approximately three weeks to complete the entire system.  RMU Water Division Operators will be flushing the hydrants from Monday through Friday each week from 7:00 a.m. until 3:30 p.m.

RMU reminds water service customers that they may experience some discoloration in the water supply for a short period of time following the work.  We advise customers to open cold water faucets for several minutes until the water becomes clear to insure all of the discoloration has been removed.  Customers are reminded not to launder clothing in water that has been discolored, since the clothing may become stained.

RMU Water Service Interruption

On Thursday, April 19, 2012, RMU Water Operators will be replacing a water valve in the 1100 block of Westview Drive.  As a result of the work, a Precautionary Boil Order will be issued.

Weather permitting; water service will be interrupted from approximately 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 19, 2012.  RMU customers in the 1000, 1100, and 1200 blocks of Westview Drive and the two customers at 1000 and 1325 Tenth Avenue will be affected.  As a reminder during the precautionary boil order, customers should boil all water used for drinking and cooking for a minimum of five minutes.

Customers will be notified once the boil order is lifted.  If you have questions or concerns, please contact the RMU Customer Service office at 815-562-4155. 

Stenstrom Excavation is scheduled to begin the replacement of the existing water main on Fourth Avenue; between North Main Street and Third Avenue.  The contractors will begin moving in their equipment and materials during the week of April 16 through 20th.  We anticipate the project will take approximately two weeks to complete.

Weather permitting; the work is scheduled to begin on Monday, April 23rd in the 300 block of Fourth Avenue.  The contractor for the project plans to work from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.  Vehicular traffic during the working hours will be impacted, including intersection closures, but we will strive to minimize the inconvenience.
